THE GREAT AND POWERFUL
Posted ImageYay, Sims! I like Sims. You like Sims. We all like Sims!

I recently got ahold of The Sims 3 (my first Sims game, as a matter of fact), and after playing around with it for a few weeks, I got kind of bored with messing around with random households that I had created. So, since I am a horribly uncreative individual, I started looking for player-imposed challenges that other people had made to try. After a little bit of googling, I found this:

The Klepto King Challenge!
Posted by user MrAlex on the Mod The Sims forums, the Klepto King challenge is pretty simple. I'll link to the forum post and copypaste it below in a spoiler tag so that you guys can read the details for yourselves, but the gist of it is this:

  • Make a young adult Sim with the traits Kleptomaniac, Mooch, and Evil.
  • The Sim cannot buy anything. Ever. All furniture must be stolen from other people's houses.
  • The Sim cannot have a job. Ever. All money and food must be mooched off of other Sims.
  • The Sim can only steal three items per in-game day, and after stealing three items from a certain household, the Sim cannot steal from them again.
  • Money can only be spent on extending your house or in hiring certain services (i.e., a maid, repairman, and babysitter).
  • By the time your Sim reaches ripe old age, have the highest home value you can!

Of course, there are a few more rules to keep things from getting too easy (or too difficult, I suppose). You can read those in the quote or on the forum page itself, if you wanna play along. :3

Now then, on to the thievery!

So, to get things started, here's my Sim. Say hello to Sneaky Pete. (Hello, Sneaky Pete!)

Pete is the result of me mashing the randomly-generated Sim button a couple dozen times until I got a Sim I liked. His traits are Kleptomaniac, Mooch, Evil, Genius, and Handy (I figured I should give him some good traits to balance the nasty ones out). His astrological sign is Cancer, his favorite food is cobbler, he likes classical music, and his favorite color is black. Also, one of the additional rules for Klepto King required that I dress him in all black, so black his wardrobe shall be. I also gave him a rather deep voice, because whoever heard of a master thief with a squeaky voice? It'd be ridiculous.

Now then, I just need a name for my save file...

Sure, that'll work.

Stay tuned for day one!

Alright, time to start day one! Sneaky Pete's all moved in, and he's ready to begin--ahem, "decorating".

Here's the house he's starting in, a premade home called The Monotone. Just a one bedroom, one bath affair, nothing too fancy. As the rules stated, I started with the unfurnished model, buying myself nothing but the most expensive bed I could afford. This ensures that Pete has a place to sleep, while making sure most of my money is gone. The instant I put that bed down, I'm not allowed to enter the Buy menu ever again.

Now, to business! The first thing I need to do is start making friends with the neighbors. I head to one of the houses next door, home to the Alvi family.

I'm invited in by the head of the household, a man named Iqbal. He's got a unibrow that goes for miles. His teenaged son VJ and younger son Miraj live here as well. When I enter, there's a blond girl sitting on the couch. Her name is Lisa Bunch, and she's a friend of VJ's. I acquaint myself with the family, and then immediately ask Lisa if she has any food. She hands me a plate with some bread and jam on it.

Mmmmm.

I spend the rest of the day with the Alvi's, chatting and watching TV. Eventually, Lisa leaves, and the two kids go to bed. Iqbal is still up, and I'm still sitting on the couch. I decide to bide my time and wait until he's gone to sleep before I make my move. To ensure I'm alert for the evening of heisting ahead, I take a quick snooze.

When I wake up again, it's about 2:00 AM, and the house is silent. Perfect.

Now, here's where the kleptomaniac trait comes into play. According to the Sims wiki, Kleptomaniac Sims can swipe objects from other Sim's houses and from certain community lots anytime between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM. To steal, click in the general area of that object and select "Swipe Something". The thieving Sim will take something in that immediate area, but not necessarily what you want. That's part of what makes Klepto King interesting. You can only steal three items per in-game day.

As a test, I click "Swipe Something" near the TV, in the hopes that Pete will grab it. Unfortunately for me, he makes a beeline for the Alvi's couch instead.

Huh. Oh well, at least I have a couch now.

Next, I head over to the dining area. Pete snags a lovely blue dining chair.

Only one more item today. What to pick, what to pick... Having a bookshelf would be pretty nice. Like, say, that bookshelf over there. What do you think, Pete?

Oh. You... you wanted another dining chair. Alright, fair enough.

Pete makes off with his ill-gotten gains, and puts them down in his living room straight away. The room's looking much more colorful already!

And with that, Pete retires to bed, a night of dreaming about his shiny new furniture ahead of him. What adventures will tomorrow bring?

Stay tuned for day two!

A downy black feather, dancing on the wind.
I think Pete may have one other mental 'tick' that isn't listed... kathisophilia, for example.

He certainly has some kind of fascination with seating furniture. That's probably why he resorted to a life of crime--couches are expensive, you know!
